Washington Motorists: Check Your Tires

You wouldn't go skydiving without checking your parachute, would you?

Few Washington motorists realize how much they depend on the four tires of their vehicle to stay alive and avoid a devastating car crash: at 60 miles per hour, your tires are rotating at 14 revolutions per second. Tires are incredibly resistant but they need a little tender loving care.

After all, you need them most when:

So how do you give your tires that TLC?

• Check tire pressure at least once a month;
• Inspect tires for uneven wear patterns, cracks or foreign objects;
• Adjust tire pressure before a long trip;
• Adjust tire pressure for a heavy load;
• Change tires when worn out, i.e. if the tread groove is less than 1/16^th inch.

When you change your tires, you should always request a tire balance - to prevent wobbling at high speed - and wheel alignment to make sure your vehicle doesn't veer to the left or to the right on a straight flat road.
